Bell Forklifts for Economical Materials Handling in Rough Terrain

The image of a forklift truck that will ring a bell with the majority of people will tend to be limited by their experience. It many cases, the picture they conjure will probably be that of a compact, near-silent, electric vehicle with the ability to turn on a dime and sprint along the polished aisles between the shelves of their local discount warehouse, removing or stacking palletised packages with the aid of a moving platform – and with little apparent effort on the part of the driver. In fairness to their drivers, to operate them safely, these vehicles actually do require a fair degree of skill. The type described is also just one of several forms in common use, although perhaps less often in locations where they may be readily observed by the public.

Loading and unloading are essential tasks that are required in a wide range of differing situations and, in many cases, the most effective way in which to tackle these tasks is with the use of forklifts such as those made by Bell Equipment. One of the areas in which this industry-leading manufacturer specialises is in the design of equipment for outdoor materials handling, especially in those more challenging applications where the terrain may be somewhat rough.

These machines’ stability and durable but functional design are among their more obvious characteristics. These are, however, just a few of the qualities that have served to make them the favoured choice in many industries. Equally attractive is the combination of a competitively low-capital investment, an equally low cost of maintenance and exceptional fuel economy. Together, these qualities offer an end-user the most cost-effective option available for use in tasks and under conditions that are, invariably, a great deal more challenging than warehousing.

Among the more important fields in which these rugged and reliable Bell forklifts have succeeded in making their presence felt, both in South Africa and in much of the world beyond, are brickyards, timber yards and the farming industry. A far cry from those one may spot at some direct-to-the-public wholesaler such as Makro, the sturdy, three-wheeled Model 120 A, for instance, is powered by a DEUTZ 2,8-litre, 28 kW, 3-cylinder engine, sports 10-ply, all-traction field & road tyres and is capable of raising a load of close to 2,5 tonnes to a height of 4,1 metres. If the 120 A should prove to be insufficient, there is always the 3,7-litre, 46 kW model 220 A, which has the muscle to handle an additional tonne with ease when required to do so.

The Bell range of rough terrain Forklifts is topped off by the 220 A Versalift, a model that is designed to be configured with a variety of attachments to suit differing applications. Options include buckets, a lift platform, a material handling boom, a dangle grab, a bag-handling accessory and, of course, fork frames.

All of these models, together with a wide range of other specialised machinery and vehicles for materials handling, is available in South Africa from Kanu Equipment. Part of the prestigious Torre Industries Group, we are an acknowledged leader in our field and pride ourselves on world-beating products backed by excellent, expert service.
